Murray on Maxwell award watch list ... and some other award list too

If you’re not sponsoring a college football award, what’s your problem? What’re you waitin’ for?

Along with the multitude of other watch lists and trophies, there’s something called the College Football Performance Awards, and a bunch of Georgia players were named to those:

Aaron Murray is on the 40-man watch list at quarterback. Only three other SEC quarterbacks make the list.

Orson Charles and Aron White are among the 39 tight ends named to the watch list at that position. (Think the Bulldogs aren’t loaded at that position?)

Blair Walsh and Drew Butler, who should be on just about every watch list at their respective positions, were on the CFPA lists at kicker and punter.

Then there’s Brandon Boykin, who made the watch list both at defensive back and kick returner. And Bacarri Rambo also made the defensive back watch list.

So what are the CFPAs? The web site says it’s the “official website of college football’s most scientifically rigorous conferments.” So … there ya go.

A slightly more prestigious trophy is the Byron Maxwell award, bestowed annually on the nation's top player. And Murray made that list too, one of 68 on the initial watch list.

The idea of the watch list may be a bit silly; If a player doesn't make the first one it doesn't mean they can't play their way on it, as Cam Newton did in 2010.

But it makes for good preseason fodder, and shows that Murray is receiving a good deal of respect in the college football world.

Alright! Maybe we can have Aaron leave UGA with multiple records and a high NFL draft pick...with 0 trips to the SECCG?
